Surfing is an ancient sport which is closely related to Polynesian culture. The first discovery of this sport by modern civilisation has happened in Hawaii in 18th century.

Despite the fact that surfing has been a part of Polynesian culture for centuries, this sport is considered as one of newly-invented modern sports.

Here you can see some grayscale photographs of surfers posing with their surf-boards. Those photos might look like they were taken about fifty years ago but actually they arent. They were taken by photographer Joni Sternbach on the shorelines of New York and California. She used special techniques to make those photos look like they were taken long time ago.
